Ravintsara Essential Oil – The Queen of Winter

Botanical Family: Lauraceae


  • 1,8-cinéole (eucalyptol) : 50 à 60 %
  • sabinène : 10 à 18 %
  • α-terpinéol : 5 à 11 %

Ravintsara is a tree that can grow up to 2 meters in height and its leaves remind of laurel. It takes 100 kg of leaves to obtain 1 to 2 kg of ravintsara essential oil. 

Although Ravintsara originates from Japan it was mined and used in Madagascar. Much research has been done around these leaves. The name in Malagasy language means ‘’GOOD LEAF’’ ravina= leaf = tsara = good. 

Highly concentrated in 1,8 cineole (eucalyptol) makes it a great antiviral remedy with a broad spectrum of actions. It is antibacterial, antifungal, expectorant, anti-inflammatory.

Use ravintsara essential oil for sleep disorders, depressive episodes. This essential oil balances the nervous system and soothes the tension. Its fresh and balsamic smell will make the diffusion in your room very pleasant. 

Be careful not to confuse with the ravensare which is another plant that has to be other uses and prohibited for children.

HEALTH: anti-viral, anti-bacterial, immunostimulant, expectorant, antifungal

Ravintsara essential oil has a broad-spectrum antibiotic and anti-infective action because it is rich with 1,8 cineole. This means that it can treat many infections. Children and adults tolerate this essential oil well. There are no known side effects. It also has an expectorant action, which will thin the bronchial secretions. 

Because of the alpha-terpene content, it will stimulate the adrenal glands that are responsible for the immune response. That is why ravintsara essential oil is considered to be immunostimulant.



Ravintsara essential oil can be used orally, in atmospheric diffusion and in skin applications starting from 6 years old. 

  • Orally: dilute 1 drop of ravintsara essential oil in 1tsp of honey or olive oil. Take 3x a day.
  • For children starting from 3 months and up to 6 years old use this essential oil only for diffusion and skin applications. It is prohibited to take it internally.

Ravintsara essential oil is prohibited for use by pregnant women and babies under 3 months.


  • dilute 1 drop of ravintsara essential oil in a teaspoon of vegetable oil 
  • apply 3x a day
  • apply on the chest and the spine 

Forbidden for children under 3 months old.


Can be used for children from 6 years old.

  •  apply 1 drop on the wrists, and breath in deeply. Use this essential oil for 3 weeks then stop for a week.


  • 10 drops of ravintsara essential oil
  • 10 drops of eucalyptus radiata essential oil
  • Diffuse for 5-10 min in room 3 times a day

And continue to do this until health improves. Forbidden for children under 3 months old and for pregnant women under 12 weeks.


  • 1 drop of ravintsara
  • 1 drop of niaouli, apply pure on the infected area every 4 hours until the disappearance of symptoms
  • apply on a cold sore

WELL-BEING: Neuro tonic, energizing, balancing the nervous system.

Because sabinene and alpha-terpineol have a neuro-tonic and sedative action, they improve cognitive performance and act on memory and mood. Ravintsara is recommended for sleep disorders, anxiety, nervousness, nervous fatigue. As well as for the physical fatigue, loss of form, low morale and depression.



  • 10 drops of ravintsara essential oil
  • 10 drops of black spruce essential oil (general regenerator, transmits energy and perseverance)
  • 10 ml of vegetable oil
  • mix everything and apply on the solar plexus 2x per day. 

This mixture is forbidden for pregnant and breastfeeding women and for children under 6 years old because of the presence of black spruce.
